Thailand's 250 NRC members royally appointed

BANGKOK, October 6 (TNA) - His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has approved, in a Royal Command, a line-up of 250 members of the National Reform Council (NRC) in accordance with Section 28 of the 2014 Provisional Constitution. The line-up of the 250 National Reform Councilors took effect on Monday, after it published in the Royal Gazette following the royal approval of His Majesty the King, which was countersigned by Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha. Well-known NRC members include 86-year-old former parliament president Chai Chidchob, former deputy defence minister General Yutthasak Sasiprapa, a legal expert of many governments, Somchai Ruchupan, a legal expert and Secretary-General of the King Prajadhipok’s Institute Borwornsak Uwanno, former president of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, who joined the demonstrations of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) from late 2013-mid 2014, a deputy leader of the Democrat Party, Alongkorn Polabut, and a SEA Write Award winner, Naowarat Pongpaiboon. Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuthavong told journalists, meanwhile, that the NRC members will work out plans on corruption reduction, educational reform and justice promotion, while also forming a constitution-drafting assembly to take shape within six months in order to bring the country back to the normal situation. The Secretariat of the House of Representatives will officially register the 250 national reform councilors from October 8-15. (TNA)
