Thailand's anti-government protesters to induce people to join

BANGKOK, January 4 (TNA) - Anti-government protesters will start marching on Bangkok streets on Sunday to induce more people to join their planned mass rallies from January 13 onwards, aimed at ousting Thailand's caretaker government. Ekkanat Promphan, a spokesman of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), told reporters on Saturday that PDRC secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban will lead the PDRC supporters to march on Bangkok streets on January 5,7 and 9 in the afternoon only to persuade people to join in the PDRC-planned "Bangkok shutdown" from January 13 onwards. Ekkanat, however, did not disclose names of the streets where the protesters would march on those three days. Meanwhile, Nitithorn Lamlua, a core leader of the anti-government Network of Students and People for Thailand’s Reform (NSPTR), announced that leaders of his group and those of the PDRC are discussing on ways to persuade more people to participate in the upcoming "Bangkok shutdown” demonstrations. Nitithorn said the discussion is focused on dismantling the NSPTR's main platform near the Government House, after the PDRC’s leader has announced to dismantle the PDRC’s main platform at the Democracy Monument on Rajadamnoen Avenue on January 13, but many PDRC platforms will be then set up across the capital instead. In response to a call by the government-run Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) for the protesters occupying in front of the Government House to vacate the area to allow children to visit the prime minister’s office on the National Children’s Day, which falls on January 11, Nitithorn said his group also plans to organise activities for children on that day and, if necessary, his group will leave more space for children to enter and visit the Government House on the National Children’s Day.(TNA)
