Thailand's Car FreeDay 2013 set on Sept 22

BANGKOK, September 21 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration or BMA has announced that people should avoid the use of roads around Sanam Luang ceremonial ground, Rajadamnoen Avenue and others toward Central World Shopping Centre in the Ratchaprasong Intersection on September 22, as it is the "Car Free Day 2013". The BMA said on Saturday (Sept 21) that more than 20,000 bicyclers have asked to use the announced roads for their cycling on the "Car Free Day 2013" to promote more use of public transport systems, instead of personal vehicles. According to the BMA's announcement, the mass gathering point was set at Sanam Luang from 6am until midday, but part of the bicyclers will start their cycling at 9am, going along the Rajadamnoen Avenue all the way to Central World Shopping Centre. The BMA notified that Na Phra Tat and Na PhraLan Roads near Sanam Luang will be closed from 6am until midnight on Sunday (Sept 22), while Phra Chan, Maharaj and Tai Wang Roads will be temporarily changed into single-lane routes from 6 am until midnight. All motorists are advised to avoid using those roads at the specified times. (TNA)
