Thailand's Car Passports can only be used in Laos

BANGKOK, September 13 (TNA) - The Department of Land Transport has clarified that Thailand's Car Passports can only be used in Lao PDR, when traveling out of the country. The department's Director-General, Atsathai Rattanadilok Na Phuket,on Saturday dismissed reports on social networks that such passports could be used in all member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), stressing that Car Passports can only be used in Lao PDR, as Thailand and the neighbouring country have inked an agreement on allowing the use of Car, Bus and Truck Passports in each other's country. Atsathai also made it clear that the use of Car Passports is not allowed in Cambodia, as the Thai and Cambodian governments have only agreed on the use of Bus and Truck Passports, while there has not been such the agrrement with other ASEAN member countries. Currently, there are three types of vehicle passports, including purple license for personal cars, green license for trucks and blue license for diplomat vehicles, all types of which can be applied for at the Department of Land Transport's head office in Bangkok's Chatujak area, or at its provincial offices. Meanwhile, the department announced that Thailand's new version of drivers' licenses in the form of plastic cards, each of which is imprinted with the picture of individual driver, the national flag and the department's official symbol, as well as a counter-fake security system, can be used by license holders in both Thailand and all other ASEAN member countries.
