Thailand's caretaker government mulls lifting executive decree

BANGKOK, March 3 (TNA) - The caretaker government-run Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) and concerned security authorities are assessing the situation to see whether the executive decree, imposed in all areas in Bangkok and some areas in its peripheral provinces, can be lifted. Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra stressed on Monday that the updated situation is to be assessed first, before a final decision on whether the executive decree should be revoked, will be made. The caretaker prime minister made the remarks while officially visiting the CMPO headquarters on Monday, after protesters of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) had dissolved their four main rally sites in Bangkok to now gather only at Lumpini park in the capital. Accompanied by National Police Chief Police General Adul Saengsingkaew, Yingluck also offered morale support to provincial police officers who have been keeping peace and order in Bangkok over the past four months. The caretaker prime minister said, meanwhile, that a full investigation needs to be conducted whether there was a movement to separate the country, affirming that her government does not support separatism and stressing that the Thai Kingdom cannot be divided.
