Thailand's Caretaker PM asks protesters not to obstruct Feb 2 election

BANGKOK, February 2 (TNA) - Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has, again, asked anti-government protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) not to oppose Sunday's general election, saying that the national poll is universally fundamental right of people and violence should not take place. Yingluck said on Saturday how people in Thailand could explain to the international community on the opposition to a general election by a group of people. Yingluck suggested that people should have patience and any violence would not benefit the Thai Kingdom. Touching on remarks made earlier in the day by Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party which has boycotted Sunday’s general election, that he would not cast his vote because this election is against the Constitution, Yingluck stressed that she could not understand why the February 2 national poll is against the Thai Charter because every rule is made in accordance with Thailand's 2007 Constitution and the previous Democrat Party-led government also agreed to it.
