Thailand's Caretaker PM to visit Myanmar for ASEAN Summit

BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) - Thailand's Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to visit Myanmar this coming weekend to attend the 24th ASEAN Summit, hosted by the neighbouring country from May 10-11. Deputy Government Spokesman Phakdihan Himathongkham officially announced the caretaker prime minister's scheduled visit to Myanmar on Tuesday afternoon, after the Cabinet's weekly meeting. According to the deputy spokesman, the caretaker prime minister will also chair the 8th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit on the sidelines of the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, but there will be no inking of any agreement. Meanwhile, the caretaker prime minister testified with Bangkok's Constitutional Court by herself on her past replacement of Thawil Pliensri as the secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC). Yingluck was among four witnesses whom the court examined on Tuesday morning. In the case, her status as the prime minister is doubted as the Administrative Court and the Supreme Administrative Court earlier ruled that the transfer of Thawil in 2011 was unlawful because it paved the way for the promotion of her relative to be the national police chief. Senator Paibul Nititawan, the complainant, said he expected the Constitutional Court to end the status of Yingluck and her Cabinet for the transfer and the Senate could then work towards the appointment of a new prime minister.
