Thailand's Caretaker PM vows to stay in power to uphold democracy

BANGKOK, January 14 (TNA) - Embattled Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has insisted on staying in office to uphold democracy. Yingluck told reporters on Tuesday that she is obliged by the laws to be the caretaker prime minister after the dissolution of the House of Representatives on December 9, 2013. Yingluck urged representatives of all 70 stakeholders invited to Wednesday's election talks, particularly all five election commissioners, to attend the talks, set to be held at the Royal Thai Air Force’s conference hall in Bangkok. Yingluck pointed out it is an opportunity for all the stakeholders to learn about obstacles to the February 2 general election, including a recent EC proposal for the issuance of a new royal decree to reschedule the February 2 General Election for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's approval. Yingluck said the stakeholders can also use the forum to directly discuss and find a solution to ongoing domestic political protests The caretaker prime minister stressed that any problem will not end without talks and street protests will only hurt people and obstruct the country from moving ahead.(TNA)
