Thailand's Constitution Drafting Committee starts functioning

BANGKOK, November 5 (TNA) - Members of Thailand's Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) have started functioning with their first official meeting set on November 6. All the CDC's 36 members, led by Chairman Bowornsak Uwanno, held an unofficial meeting in Bangkok on Wednesday afternoon, prior to their Thursday's official meeting. Before their unofficial meeting, the 36 CDC members worshipped holy spirits at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha inside the Grand Palace and the nearby City Pillar in the capital earlier in the day. At their Thursday's meeting, the CDC will select its deputy chairpersons, secretary, spokesman and personnel for other positions. National Reform Council (NRC) Chair Thienchay Kiranandana, who signed the appointment of the CDC, told reporters that the 36 drafters have expertise in constitution drafting, represent various sectors in the Thai society and are believed to be politically neutral and he did not, thus, expect any problem from the CDC and would propose a framework to the CDC within a few days.
