Thailand's ex-army commander surrenders on arms charges

BANGKOK, July 8 (TNA) - Thailand's former commanding general of the Third Army Area Command Lieutenant General Manas Paorik has surrendered himself to crime suppression police. Lieutenant General Manas, one of 13 suspects for possessing of war weapons and involving in an armed black clad force who clashed with state police and military forces during Thailand's political protest in 2010 and whose arrest warrants were approved by the Martial Court in the central Saraburi Province, turned himself in to the police on Tuesday. The ex-third army area commander denied all the charges and insisted on his innocence, while presenting some evidence of his possession of assets and medical certifications to request for his release on bail. The ex-third army area commander also denied that he is close to exiled ex-minister attached to the prime minister's office Jakrapob Penkae, who is also a former government spokesman in the previous administration of exiled ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and knows late red-clad Major General Khattiya Sawasdipol, or Seh Daeng, who was shot dead during the 2010 domestic political violence. The police said three suspects were earlier apprehended, while the remaining nine suspects were believed to later surrender. (TNA)
