Thailand's ex-education minister released on bail

BANGKOK, June 6 (TNA) - Thailand's ex-education minister Chaturon Chaisang was released on bail by the Martial Court on Friday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Martial Court approved a 12-day extended detention of the former education minister, as requested by the military prosecutors, from June 9-20, 2014, after his first 12-day detention period expires on June 8. Narinpong Jinapak, President of the Lawyer’s Association of Thailand, told journalists that Chaturon was granted the temporary release on a 400,000-baht bail on conditions that he cannot leave Thailand, unless permitted by the Martial Court, and he cannot make any speech or any other means which may create unrest in the country. The former education minister was apprehended on charges of violating the martial law and instigating unrest in the country. His wife, Jiraporn Chaisang, thanked the Martial Court for temporarily releasing the ex-education minister, saying that a team of lawyers will be then assigned to fight for her husband in the Martial Court, whose verdict cannot be appealed.
