Thailand's first Charter draft completed

BANGKOK, March 10 (TNA) - The first draft of Thailand's new Charter has been completed, believed to be a best Constitution. Borwornsak Uwanno, Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC), told the National Reform Council (NRC) of the update on Tuesday. Borwornsak said that the new Constitution draft is based on Thailand's past problems and visions for the future, while also promoting national peace. Borwornsak noted that Thailand suffered a deep-rooted strife, starting in 2005, in which all institutions in the country were drawn and could erupt again. Borwornsak attributed the ideological differences to social inequality, faith, accusations and imbalance between votes and popularity of political parties. According to the CDC chair, the new Thai Constitution draft empowers citizens, keeps domestic politics clean and promotes fairness in the society in order to create national peace. Regarding civil empowerment, the CDC chair pointed out that people would enjoy free education for 15 years, instead of 12, mothers would receive privileges from their pregnancies to a postnatal period, while voters could vote to impeach politicians with serious misconducts and rank list candidates at polling booths. The CDC chair acknowledged although the drafting of the new Thai Charter has been finished, its wordings have to be slightly adjusted. (TNA)
