Thailand's interim government likely to be formed within three months

BANGKOK, June 6 (TNA) - Thailand's interim government, with an appointed prime minister, is expected to be formed within three months, after a coup staged by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on May 22. Thai Army and NCPO Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha made the assessment on Friday, when he met a delegation of Chinese business operators, led by Deputy Chair of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Vichai Assarasakorn, at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters in Bangkok. General Prayuth told the delegation that his coup council would then monitor the newly-form interim administration to make sure that the interim government is free of corruption. General Prayuth also said that the NCPO is considering to lift curfew, set from midnight to 4am and now imposed nationwide except Pattaya, Phuket and Samui Island, in several other areas soonest. Besides, the NCPO chief asked the Chinese delegation to help publicize the updated situation in Thailand, where international business operators and travelers can now invest and visit normally after the May 22 coup, which ended a six-month domestic political strife. The NCPO chief insisted that existing international investment projects in the Thai economy can be continually proceeded, acknowledging, however, that new mega-investment projects in the country would be delayed, as his coup council has a policy to prevent and suppress corruption and conflicts of interest to ensure that there would be no demands for bribes from international investors in the future.
