Thailand's last-day party-list candidacy goes on smoothly

BANGKOK, December 27 (TNA) - The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) continued, smoothly, on Friday its registrations of party-list candidates on the last day at Gymnasium 2 in the compound of the Thai-Japanese Stadium in Bangkok's Din Daeng area without anti-government protesters, as previous days. Traffic flowed as usual in front of the stadium, but there were traces of damage, including teargas stains, broken glass and smashed vehicles of government officials, as well as a large number of garbage piles, in the wake of Thursday's violent clashes between anti-government demonstrators and police causing two dead, one police officer and one man, and over 150 others injured, 34 of them are police. Government property inside the Gymnasium 2 was also damaged, while belongings of government officials were also searched. No protesters, however, showed up at the stadium on Friday morning, and police neither blocked access to the place nor search visitors. They only remained inside the Gymnasium 2 building. Election commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn told reporters, meanwhile, that the EC is scheduled to have a video conference with its election staffs nationwide on Friday afternoon to brief them on the updated situation and prepare them for the registrations of constituency candidates, set from December 28, 2013-January 1, 2014.
