Thailand's Lat Krabang Industrial Estate protected from floods

BANGKOK, October 29 (TNA) - All parties concerned have joined forces to prevent floods at the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate in Bangkok's eastern suburb, after several other major industrial sites in the country's central regions have been inundated. Thai Industry Minister Wannarat Channukul and Deputy Army Commander-in-Chief General Dapong Ratanasuwan visited the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate on Saturday to inspect the situation. General Dapong suggested that, as part of flood prevention measures, grounded rocks be prepared to be used to block or to delay flows of floodwater from reaching the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate in case that any flood prevention dyke breaks up, pending the sandbag dykes are re-erected and fortified. According to the deputy army chief, the method has successfully prevented flooding at oil depots of state-supported Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited or Bangchak in the central Ayutthaya Province's Bang Sai District. The authorities also called a meeting with troops deployed at the area to be briefed on progress in erecting and fortifying the 17-kilometre flood prevention dykes at the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate.
