Thailand's national reform to focus on politics, resources, people and law

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) - A working group, tasked with national reform by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), has concluded that the national reform plan will be focused on politics, resources, people and law. Permanent Secretary for Defence General Surasak Kanchanarat, in his capacity as the acting permanent secretary for defence, who heads the working group, told journalists on Wednesday, after the working group's first meeting in Bangkok, that the national reform is essential in Thailand, where groups of people had tried to instigate violence among people with different opinions. General Surasak explained that the domestic political reform is aimed to make politics acceptable to all parties, while the resource reform is aimed to provide all people with equal access to national resources. Besides, people reform is aimed to make people abide by law and the law reform will emphasize on fair laws and law enforcement. According to the working group's head, the national reform process will consist of the collection of existing reform ideas, relevant research projects and people's opinions, with their synthesis and proposals of the refined initiatives to be reported to the NCPO, the National Legislative Assembly and the Reform Council for further consideration and actions. The working group's head said that the collection of people's opinions, which should take about two months, will be done through the http://rfm.mod.go.th website, the rfm@mod.go.th email address and nationwide forums to be organized by provincial reconciliation centers, acknowledging that the domestic political reform is the most difficult and all parties must, therefore, cooperate.
