Thailand's new Charter draft expected to be ready in April 2015

BANGKOK, November 22 (TNA) - National Legislative Assembly (NLA) Vice President Surachai Liangboonlertchai says that the draft of Thailand's new Constitution should be completed by mid-April 2015. When opening a programme, called the "National Legislative Assembly meeting the people" held at the Thai Parliament building on Saturday, Surachai stated that NLA has set up a committee to compile public opinions on drafting the new Constitution from every sector in the Thai society, after which NLA will forward them to the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) for further consideration during its charter drafting process. Surachai also invited representatives of democracy networks nationwide to send opinions to NLA. According to the NLA vice president, the programme will be conducted on a regular basis to allow people to express opinions which will be used in ongoing national reform and Constitution drafting processes, as all parties wish to see the new Thai Charter to be perfect. In another development, CDC Chair Borwornsak Uwanno, who is also Secretary-General of King Prajadhipok’s Institute and Vice Chair of the National Reform Council (NRC), suggested that the younger generations have a significant role in leading the country to the right direction under the democratic and freedom systems which offer justice. Borwornsak pointed out, apart from being knowledgable persons, the new generations need to be equipped with fine ethics by realising that others’ advantages are just important like their own benefits.(TNA)
