Thailand's solutions to alleged human trafficking-related problems on progress

BANGKOK, October 9 (TNA) - Social Development and Human Security Minister Police General Adul Saengsingkaew says he is confident that the alleged human trafficking crux in Thailand will be addressed and Washington should raise the country’s rating status on the issue in its next assessment, as solutions to the alleged human trafficking-related problems have been on progress. Police General Adul told journalists on Thursday that his ministry has cooperated with several agencies concerned on solutions to the problems, including the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Ministries of Public Health and Interior, while concerned officials have also been assigned to follow up updates posted on social media networks, as they have become important sources of information for the problems. Police General Adul explained that he has coordinated with the DSI to follow cases involving alleged human trafficking in order to make foreign governments understand that the Thai government is determined to solve the crux. On June 20, 2014, Washington downgraded Thailand in its annual Trafficking in Persons Report, in which it dropped Thailand to its lowest “Tier 3” level on the alleged human trafficking problem, after holding the Kingdom on the Tier 2 warning list for four consecutive years. The United States has accused five Thai business sectors of using child and forced labour, including shrimp, textiles, sugarcane, pornographic materials and fisheries. (TNA)
