Thailand's Songkran Road Accidents Recorded Over 300

BANGKOK, April 18 (TNA) - Fatalities during Thailand's seven-day dangerous period of the Songkran or traditional Thai New Year Festival 2012, from April 11-April 17, were officially recorded at 320, 49 cases more than the same period of last year, from a total of 3,129 road accidents nationwide with 3,320 injuries. According to official figures, up to 257 road accidents were reported on April 17 alone, with 38 deaths and 261 injuries. During the April 11-17 period, road accidents took place most in Nakhon Sawan province in the Lower Thai North; while most fatalities of 13 were reported in Surat Thani province in the Thai South and most injuries of 124 were recorded in Chiang Rai province in the Thai North, with drunk driving remaining their top cause.
