Thailand's strict measures against Ebola maintained

BANGKOK, August 23 (TNA) - As part of attempts to prevent the deadly Ebola virus from breaking into Thailand, authorities at the country's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport have cooperated with the quarantine section in installing a Thermoscan at a terminal, now opened to specially serve passengers from Ebola-hit countries. Dr. Jariengroj Krisna, a medical director at Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), told jounalists of the update on Saturday, acknowledging that the equipment has been installed since August 21 and it has been used to measure body temperatures of passengers arriving from Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, where outbreaks of the fatal disease have been reported. Dr. Jariengroj said passengers travelling from the Ebola-affected countries who are found to have high temperatures will be asked by quarantine section officials to undertake a medical checkup and other measures laid out by the Thai Public Health Ministry. Dr. Jariengroj noted that both the Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the quarantine section are also considering setting up five more scanning points for arriving passengers, three of them will be set up at counters checking passports, while the rest will be installed at the passenger transit area. So far, airport officials have also installed more than 80 gel washing basins for inbound international passengers before they leave the Suvarnabhumi International Airport and more are expected to be installed in the future at the airport's baggage sorting area.
