Thailand's tourism not affected by feared doomsday

BANGKOK, December 21 (TNA) - A belief in doomsday, or the end of the world, said to be on December 21, appears not to affect Thailand’s tourism, particularly in southern resort Krabi province, as it cannot be scientifically proved. Ekawit Pinyothammanothai, President of the Krabi Hotel Association, insisted that the belief in the end of the world on December 21, 2012, according to the Mayan calendar, had no impacts on tourism in Krabi because it could not be scientifically proved. The hotel room occupancy rate in Krabi now stands at 80-90 per cent, which is close to the rate in the same period last year, with most visitors in this annual high season coming from Scandinavia and Russia; while Asian arrivals also being seen actively on the rise.
