Thailand's tourism revenues projected at Bt1.85t in 2014

BANGKOK, October 13 (TNA) - The number of international tourist arrivals in Thailand is foreseen to reach about 24.9 million this year, earning the country at least 1.85 trillion baht tourism-related revenues. Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul made the forecast on Monday, thanks to the more stable domestic political situation. Kobkarn estimated that tourism-related revenues from foreigners visiting Thailand should stand about 1.16 trillion baht this year, down slightly from last year, and the rest from locals. In order to encourage people to travel in the country by bicycles for the sake of their good health in line with Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha’s policy, the minister said that plans have been made to build bicycle lanes nationwide. Besides, the government is encouraging Thai people to celebrate the upcoming New Year’s five-day holiday, starting from December 31, 2014 to January 2, 2015, by travelling in the country, instead of touring abroad.
