Thais celebrate St. Valentine’s Day

BANGKOK, February 14 (TNA) - Like people in other parts worldwide, a number of Thais across the country are celebrating St. Valentine's Day on February 14, when people extend their love and goodwill to one another by exchanging flowers, mostly rose, and enjoying celebrating events. In the northeastern Khon Kaen province, local flower shops have been busy arranging and selling bouquets to flows of customers. Some shops have even prepared over 10,000 blooms for sales, at the price of at least 500 baht per bunch. The bouquets ordered in Khon Kaen have reached 1,000 and remain on the rise. In the northeastern Si Sa Ket province rose remains popular among customers, mostly teenagers, despite its soaring prices. A number of people have opted to purchase dolls and other tokens, with cheaper prices, for their loved ones, instead of rose. In the eastern Pattaya City of seaside Chonburi province, nine couples have particiapted in a kissing marathon held for the third consecutive years at the Ripley's Museum. The contesting couples started to lip-lock on Tuesday night in an effort to stay kissing for more than 50 hours, 20 minutes and 10 second, to beat the previous champs who are also participating in this year's competition. So far, five couples have given up, while other four have stayed kissing. In the lower northern Pitsanulok province, students of Chalermkwansatree School made Valentine’s cards to be sent to soldiers, police and teachers who work in the violence-plagued Thai deep South to boost their morale.
