Thais observe National Rice and Farmers Day

BANGKOK, June 5 (TNA) - Thailand observes National Rice and Farmers Day, which falls on every June 5, to signify Thai rice, the country's number one export item for more than 30 years, and to honour Thai farmers. There are now more than 16 million Thai farmers, most of them remain impoverished and 60 per cent of them live in the Thai Northeast. The Thai government sees the significance of Thai farmers and honours them as the back-bone of the country and has designated every June 5 the National Rice and Farmers Day. (TNA)
