Thais observe National Thai Language Day

BANGKOK, July 29 (TNA) - Thai people observe the National Thai Language Day on every July 29, when the correct usage of the Thai language and dialects is promoted and brilliant users are awarded. Opening an event in Bangkok on Wednesday to mark the special day, Privy Councillor Ampol Senanarong called on the general public to conserve the Thai language and dialects, which reflect Thai cultures and local wisdom. While delivering his speech at the event, organized by the Office of the Royal Society, the privy councillor suggested that the conservation of Thai dialects starts at home where parents should regularly speak dialects to their children. The privy councillor pointed out that many agencies have increased their campaigns to conserve Thai dialects. According to the privy councillor, Thai youths should be proud of their dialects, which were actually the origins of Thai words. On the occasion, the Office of the Royal Society presented prizes and certificates to pupils and their teachers for their speeches in dialects on the pride of their localities. (TNA)
