Thais overseas can renew, replace ID cards in countries of residence

BANGKOK, January 5 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichukchaikul says that Thai citizens living overseas can, from now on, renew their identity (ID) cards in their countries of residence or have their ID cards replaced in case of loss or damage. Surapong told journalists that the services will be provided at Thai embassies or consulates in the countries of residence of the Thai expatriates. According to the deputy premier, the new move is part of the Thai government's policy on making the process easier for Thai nationals living overseas, who were previously required to return home to renew or replace their ID cards. The deputy premier noted that the new measure is not, however, applied to Thai citizens who have never had an ID card, as first-time Thai ID seekers can only be applied and processed in Thailand.(TNA)
