Thais want brave leader: Poll

BANGKOK, July 20 (TNA) – The majority of Thai people want a brave person to lead the country’s administration, according to the Master Poll survey of the Thai Researchers in Community Happiness Association (TRICHA). TRICHA Vice Chairman Associate Professor Chet Ratchadapunnathikul unveiled results of the survey conducted on 2,148 people nationwide from July 10-19, saying that 88.1 per cent of the total respondents wanted the national leader who has courage, while 76.7 per cent wanted a decisive leader and 61 per cent wanted an honest leader. Associate Professor Chet said the survey also found that Thailand’s social, political and economic atmospheres have improved following the May 22 bloodless coup staged by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). 72.4 per cent of the total respondents agreed that social atmosphere in Thailand had improved while 69.7 per cent said local political climate had become better and 56.8 per cent of the total said local economic atmosphere had improved. Associate Professor Chet said the e survey showed that 82.3 per cent wanted the NCPO to solve rising cost of living while 76.8 asked the military council to help landless people and on occupation, 74.6 per cent to help lowering oil prices, 67.4 per cent on solving high production costs of agricultural products and 56.6 per cent asked for assistance to unemployed people. 73.2 per cent of the total respondents also called for clean politics while 63.6 per cent asked for strict legal enforcement and 61 per cent asked NCPO to eradicate influential persons and narcotics crux.
