THEORY-PRACTICE TRAINING IS RUNNING ON RESTORING DOCUMENT HERITAGE

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Mongolia's National Committee for UNESCO and the Goethe Institute are jointly organizing a theory-practice training named “Conservation and restoration of the paper documental heritage of Mongolia”. Its opening ceremony ran on September 24 at the Gandan Tegchinlen Monastery. Present were the secretary-general of the Mongolian National Committee, G.Jargalsaihan and authorities of other organizing institutions. This training is apart of the “Preservation of traditional paper making and paper conservation techniques in East Asia; Paper Conservation: Methodology of Paper Conservation and Paper Making Traditions in East Asia 2008-2012” project realized by the UNESCO. The ten-day training has been headed by international expert on paper, Mr Dirk Perlman. His "students" are a representation of Mongolia's Academy of Science, National Library, National Central Archives of Mongolia, Book palace for Children, Cultural Heritage center of Mongolia, Gandan Monastery, Choijin lama monastery. The Mongolian National committee for UNESCO organized the same training at Gandan Monastery in May, in frames of which experts have cleaned old sutras from fungus. This time, is has been planned to focus on ways of restoring documental heritage suffered from accidents. Ch.Enkhtuya
