Thick Fog Hits Baoshan Airport, Six Flights Cancelled

From Kenny Teng BAOSHAN (China), June 12 (Bernama) -- A thick blanket of fog crippled flight operations at the Baoshan Yunduan Airport, resulting in the cancellation of six domestic flights. The incident at 3.30pm local time, caused over 480 passengers, including a group of journalists attending the Yunnan Journey for Mainstream Media from South and Southeast Asia, to be stranded at the domestic terminal. The airport's service department deputy director Ting Yun Peng said the dense fog began to set in about 3pm and became worse with the heavy rain. "Visibility at the airport is less than 200 metres and due to that, three flights belonging to China Eastern Airlines, two of Lucky Air and a flight of Chongqing Airlines have to be cancelled," he said, here, Monday. At 7pm, the airport visibility was still less than 200 metres. Ting said the airport might be able to resume normal operations Tuesday. -- BERNAMA
