Thick haze from raging forest fire blankets Lampang

LAMPANG, March 5 (TNA) – Forest fire continued to spread across the Doi Phrabat mountain for the second day, sending a thick haze and black smoke over the provincial seat of Lampang province in the north of Thailand. Firefighters, local officials and volunteers have reportedly worked throughout the day to contain the blazes, but steep hills and terrains made it difficult. The data collected by automatic air quality measurement stations in the country’s northern region showed that small dust particle at two spots in Mae Moh district and Muang district on Sunday exceeded the safe limit to reach 157 micrograms per cubic meter and 143 micrograms respectively. Haze could affect human respiratory system, so the local public health office has advised villagers living in the area to avoid outdoor activities and wear protective masks for the time being. (TNA)
