Third Middle East Aviation Safety Summit Kicks Off

Doha, May 24 (QNA) - Doha hosted today the third Middle East aviation safety summit, with the participation of representatives of civil aviation authorities in 12 regional countries along with a number of regional and international organizations and stakeholders in the aviation industry. The summit is organized by Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) at the invitation of the regional office of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)      In his keynote address at the opening of the summit, HE Chairman of QCAA Abdulla Nasser Turki Al-Subaey said that local, regional and global aviation safety planning has become essential to ensure the highest levels of progress in both air safety and global air navigation. Improving global aviation safety is necessary for the effectiveness of air transport in advancing sustainable economic and social development in all parts of the world, he added, stressing on the need to proactively address current and emerging safety risks to ensure optimum management of capabilities and potentials available as well as support it through strategic organizational development and infrastructure development. He underlined the importance of the continuing focus on identifying safety priorities and challenges faced by the growing air transport sector, commending the meeting of Middle East safety group and its initiatives to promote safety in the region, stressing at the same time the importance of the Doha Declaration which was approved during the third meeting of directors of civil aviation authorities in the Middle East region last year. The summit will discuss the reality of aviation safety in the region along with progress made in the implementation of Doha Declaration with regard to aviation safety goals and safety strategy, in addition to reviewing goals and priorities, initiatives and challenges related to aviation safety in the Middle East.
