Threats to Global Security and Stability Require Comprehensive and Common Confrontation: FM

Doha, December 11 (QNA) - The NATO and Security in the Gulf region conference, which was held at Doha Sheraton Hotel to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Istanbul cooperation initiative concluded here today . Speaking at the closing session of the conference HE Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah stressed that the risks and threats to global security and stability have become common, so that the confrontation to them stressing the need for joint and comprehensive cooperation, coordination and exchange of experiences and information on a bilateral basis and at regional and international levels. Al Attiyah noted that the partnership between NATO and Initiative countries have made notable successes towards security in some countries, a matter which requires deepening and strengthening of the partnership between the two sides to rapidly confront future security challenges and their consequences through early readiness and planning to intervene in a timely manner. HE Foreign Minister pointed out that the political security is closely linked to the availability of economic and social security that based on comprehensive and sustainable development plans in addition to rejecting policies based on the logic of force and unilateral rather than the joint regional or international collective action that rely on compromise and common interests . He asserted that the global security would be threatened unless the reform of the international system has been made, particularly the UN Security Council, away from the double standards in the implementation of international legitimacy and to establish equal relations between states. In this context, HE the Minister explained that the international community must shoulder its legal , moral and humanitarian responsibilities according to the logic of justice and equity and the implementation of international legitimacy in dealing with all hot spots around the world urgently and objectively through collective dialogue and not leaving things to get worse to threaten the global security and stability. The minister expressed hope that the outputs of the conference would lead to achieve the desired objectives of regional and global security and peace. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg described the NATO and Security in the Gulf region conference as "fruitful" and emphasizes the common desire to promote and develop the Istanbul initiative. Addressing the conference, Stoltenberg said that through dialogue and consultation we are affirming our desire to work together to face a series of challenges, crisis management and achieving stability in several areas, including Afghanistan. He said that the participation of high-level delegations from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Oman, confirms the flexible approach in encouraging countries of the region to join the initiative, which now includes the State of Qatar, Kuwait , the UAE and Bahrain. He stressed that the discussions and exchange of views during the conference will be depended upon to enhance joint action between the parties to the initiative in order to achieve the desired objectives. He added that the Gulf region is of a strategic importance to the NATO, especially as it faces a new multi-dimensional challenges that have impact on NATO and the Gulf states. He reiterated the need for cooperation between the partners of the initiative in order to reach results that meet the needs the region's countries.(QNA)
