Three Villages In Tanjungpura Still Flooded

Langkat, N Sumatra, Jan 19 (Antara) - Floods have been inundating three villages in Tanjungpura sub-district, Langkat District, North Sumatra Province, since January 13, 2015. The three villages - Pekubuan, Lalang and Pekan Tanjungpura, were te worst affected by flooding, Head of the Tanjungpura sub-district Surianto said here, Monday. The floods in Pekubuan, Lalang and Pekan Tanjungpura, have not subsided as more water came from neighboring Hinai sub-district, he said. In Pekan Tanjungpura, hundreds of houses and a public hospital are still flooded, forcing around 500 villages to take refuge in emergency camps set up by the Langkat disaster mitigation office (BPBD). Relief aid comprising among other things food and mineral water have been sent to flood victims. Earlier, Irwan Syahri, the executive chairman of the Langkat BPBD said floods submerged 7,791 houses in five sub-districts in Langkat District, and killed a villager. Floodwaters reaching a height of between 50 cm and 110 cm affected 22 villages in five sub-districts in Langkat, he said on Friday. In Tanjungpura sub-district, floods inundated 4,184 houses in 10 villages, namely West Pematang Cengal, Pekubuan, Lalang, Paya Perupuk, Tanjungpura, Teluk Bakung, Baja Kuning, Pematang Cengal, Suka Maju and Pulau Banyak. In Sawit Seberang, 433 houses were flooded in the villages of Alur Gadung Dusun I, II, IV, V, VI, following a dyke burst. Some 667 houses were flooded in Karya Jadi, Sei Bamban, Kuala Musam, Batang Serangan and Sei Musam villages, in Batang Serangan sub-district. In Hinai sub-district, 1,913 houses in Cempa, Tamaran, and Batu Malenggang villages, were flooded. In Wampu subdistrict, 594 houses in the villages of Pertumbukan, Bingei, and West Stabat Lama, were inundated. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBN) recently said floods inundated thousands of houses in 16 districts and cities across Indonesia over the past few days, he noted. The flood-affected districts and cities include Malinau, Langkat, Kudus, Tegal, Demak, Rokan Hilir, Pandeglang, Semarang, Situbondo, Aceh Tamiang, Donggala, Labuan Batu Utara, Tebing Tinggi, Medan, Kupang, Bandung, and Jayapura.
