THY becomes first to land in Tripoli

Turkish Airlines (THY) has become the first company which held a flight to Tripoli Airport after the war ended in Libya. TRIPOLI (AA) - November 7, 2011 - A THY plane, which took off from Istanbul, landed at Tripoli Airport with its 98 passengers. Thus, Tripoli Airport has opened to international passenger traffic. THY planes will land at Tripoli Airport everyday except Fridays as of November 7. UN Security Council had closed Tripoli Airport to air traffic under a resolution made on March 18. The Council ended all interventions and operations on Libya as of October 31. On February 17, protests began against Gadhafi regime, and turned into clashes which rapidly spread big cities of Libya. Clashes ended when Libyan National Transition Council declared independence on October 23.
