Tibetan activist sets himself ablaze, battles for life

New Delhi, Mar 26 (PTI) A young Tibetan activist was today battling for life after he attempted self-immolation during a protest against the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao here later this week. Jamyang Yeshi (26) poured some fuel and set himself on fire in the compound of the Janata Dal (United) party office here and then ran into a crowd where he fell down, police said. Protesters doused the flames with Tibetan flags and rushed Yeshi to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where doctors said he had suffered serious burn injuries. Yeshi escaped from Tibet in 2006 and had been living in New Delhi for the past six years, Tibetan activists said. Hu Jintao is coming to New Delhi to attend the March 29 summit of BRICS nations which India is hosting. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa make up BRICS.
