Tighter security provided for teachers in Thai far South

YALA, October 29 (TNA) - Teachers in the violence-plagued Thai far South will be protected by local security officers as usual during the new school semester, starting from November 1, 2013, but with more intensified measures developed from past lessons of unrest. The resolution was announced on Tuesday, after a meeting of representatives from security agencies and executives of 53 schools in Raman district of the southernmost Yala province, chaired by the provincial deputy governor, Samart Waradisai. Representatives from Thailand's Teachers' Federation of Three Southern Border Provinces also convened with those from the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), Region 4, Forward Command to review security plans for local teachers, possibly targeted by suspected insurgents, with an agreement on constant patrols for advance intelligence gathering by concerned security officers and 24-hour communications between soldiers and teachers to try the best to prevent untoward incidents and to provide safety for local teachers.
