TLSC to ask new Thai labour minister to solve problems of labour rights

BANGKOK, August 30 (TNA) - The New Decade Thai Labour Solidarity Committee (TLSC) will propose to the new labour minister to quickly solve problems relating to labour rights and to ratify the 87th and the 98th Conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). TLSC board chair Charlie Loysoong told journalists on Saturday (Aug 30) that the new labour minister should be able to make thorough and transparent decisions concerning labour issues, as the TLSC plans to propose to the new minister to urgently solve the problems of labour rights, along with holding talks with concerned agencies to speed up legal processes concerning labour cases. Charlie said the TLSC also wants the new labour minister to quickly ratify the 87th and the 98th ILO Conventions, as well as to amend the Labour Relations and Enterprise acts. Besides, the TLSC would like the new Thai labour minister to reform bureaucratic processes, covering transforming the Social Security Office (SSO) into an independent organisation to ensure its transparency and accountability, and to find a most effective measure to protect workers from being laid off by their employers.
