Top Italian Cinematographer To Attend Fajr Film Festival

Tehran, Jan 27, IRNA -- Vittorio Storaro, well-known Italian cinematographer, will be the distinguished guest of the International Section of the 32nd Fadjr Film Festival in Tehran (February 1-11). Born in Rome on June 24, 1940, Storaro began studying photography at the age of 11. He continued formal cinematography studies at the national Italian film school, Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, when he was 18. Storaroˈs first American film was Apocalypse Now, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Storaro won an Academy Award for his work on the film, followed by two more Oscars for his work on Reds and The Last Emperor, and a nomination for Dick Tracy. Storaro acted as cinematographer on films such as Last Tango in Paris, Ishtar, Bulworth, and Exorcist: The Beginning. In addition to Bertolucci and Coppola, Storaro has worked with directors such as Richard Donner, Warren Beatty, and Carlos Saura. Throughout his career, Storaro has been nominated for and won many awards for his work as a cinematographer, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Cinematographers. Various film academies have awarded him prizes: David di Donatello (Italy), Bafta (Great Britain), Goya (Spain), Emmy (US) and the European Film Award. The University of Lódz, Poland, awarded him with a ˈDoctorate Honoris Causaˈ in Cinematography. He will hold a workshop on cinematography on February 2./end
