Toronto cinema complex honors Iranian director Puran Derakhshandeh

TEHRAN,Oct.29(MNA) – York Cinemas, a Toronto theater complex dedicated to playing movies in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu, honored the Iranian director Puran Derakhshandeh during a ceremony on October 25. The ceremony was organized to commemorate her lifetime achievements in making films with social themes, some Persian news agencies reported on Monday. Derakhshandeh’s “Hush! Girls Don’t Scream” is currently on screen at the complex. The film will be on screen until October 31. The film is about a young girl named Shirin who is supposed to get married in a couple of hours, but she unexpectedly murders a man. The cause of the crime, rooted in her nightmarish childhood. Starring Shahab Hosseini, Tannaz Tabatabaii, Merila Zarei, Jamshid Hashempur, Hadi Marzban and Babak Hamidian, the film shared the Crystal Simorgh for Audience Favorite Film at the 31st Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran in February 2013. The movie is also scheduled to be screened at a number of movie theaters in California. Derakhshandeh’s credits also include “A Little Bird of Happiness”, “Passing through the Dust”, “Lost Time”, “A Love without Frontier”, “Candle in the Wind”, “Eternal Children” and “Endless Dream”.
