Tourism in Bangkok back to normal after revocation of curfew

BANGKOK, June 16 (TNA) - The tourism atmosphere on Khao San Road, a back pack hotspot for international tourists in the heart of Bangkok, has immediately returned to its lively normal, after the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) announced the nationwide revocation of curfew last Friday. Sa-nga Ruangwattanakul, President of the Khao San Road Business Association, told journalists on Monday that a number of international visitors to Khao San Road have been climbing back to its normal level. Sa-nga acknowledged that international tourists, most of whom are Thais, have flocked into the area to enjoy watching World Cup 2014 matches for the time being. Sa-nga said several foreign tourists are even staying longer on Khao San Road, from previously spending just one night before traveling to other Thai areas where curfew had been earlier lifted. According to the president, trading in Khao San Road has, therefore, become active again, assessing that the number of international visitors to the top tourist destination in the capital should fully return to the area soon, after plunging by 70 per cent during the domestic political turbulence over the past six months. The Khao San Road business association president stated that his association has publicized the curfew revocation through social media, including Facebook and Twitter, which has received a positive response to international tourists, especially those from other Asian economies. The president revealed that his association plans to launch more campaigns to draw back international tourists into Khao San Road, apart from installing large screens for World Cup 2014 fans currently to show that the situation in Bangkok has already returned to normal.(TNA)
