Toyota, Honda, Nissan to Support Hydrogen Stations

Tokyo, Feb. 12 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203>, Honda Motor Co. <7267> and Nissan Motor Co. <7201> said Thursday they will jointly support development of hydrogen station infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles. The three major Japanese automakers will determine specific measures, possibly including financial assistance, later this year. Fuel cell vehicles generate electricity for power through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen in the air. Toyota started selling the world's first mass-market fuel cell vehicle, the Mirai, in December. Honda and Nissan also have plans to start selling fuel cell vehicles in March 2016 and in 2017, respectively. A big hurdle for the spread of fuel cell vehicles is a lack of infrastructure to supply vehicles with hydrogen. END
