Train derails in Thai North

LAMPANG, August 17 (TNA) - A Chiang Mai-Bangkok express train derailed in the northern province Friday night, forcing a temporary suspension of overall train services until Saturday morning. Narintr Chantradeja, Assistant Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), confirmed, after inspecting the overnight retrieval operation and checking the carriage, that Chiang Mai-Bangkok express train and all others resumed their normal services on Saturday morning, at 9:30am. Narint acknowledged that SRT technicians have successfully retrieved the derailed carriage in the Wiang Tan locality of Lampang's Hang Chat district and has fixed the railroad sleeper. According to the SRT assistant governor, no one was injured from the accident and some 300 passengers were transferred to the Lampang Central Rail Station. The SRT assistant governor said that an official investigation of Friday night's train derailment has been on progress, noting, however, that the carriage’s axles or wheels were initially found to have worked properly and they should not be the cause of the accident.
