Train derails in Thai South, several people injured

PATTALUNG, THAILAND, August 23 (TNA) - A train derailed in Thailand's southern Phatthalung province Wednesday night, injuring several passengers and disrupting part of southern train services until later Thursday. Eight carriages of the Butterworth-Bangkok train from the Sungai Kolok railway station in Narathiwat province got off their track about 200 meters from the Baan Khuan Khiam railway station in the Falamee locality of Pak Phayun district in Phatthalung. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) deployed buses to pick up some 300 stranded passengers and their baggage and used heavy machineries to clear the train from the track, with the task likely to finish by Thursday evening. Thailand's south-bound trains can, in the meantime, reach only the Baan Khuan Khiam station and the SRT is checking whether the derailment resulted from human error or from poor track condition.
