Trang Airport remains closed, rescheduled flights arranged for passengers

TRANG, Thailand, August 7 (TNA) - Trang Airport in the Thai South has remained closed and rescheduled flights were arranged for some 300 passengers on Wednesday, after a Bangkok-bound Nok Air flight slid off its runway into a sidelined soft lawn while speeding up for taking off on Tuesday evening. Trang Airport Director Thawon Saeng-ampai told journalists that the Bangkok-bound Nok Air flight, DD7411, veered off the runway amid heavy rain, leaving its three wheels stuck in the soft grass verge, but all 142 passengers and crew on board the plane were safe. According to the airport director, a crane Nok Air has sent from Bangkok to remove the troubled aircraft from the lawn is expected to arrive at the Trang Airport around midnight and the airport has, thus, remained closed until the operation is complete. The airport director affirmed that the almost 300 passengers having booked for four Nok Air and AirAsia flights, from the Trang Airport to the Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok, on August 7 have already been arranged their new flights, at either the Krabi or the Nakhon Si Thammarat Airports. The airport director suggested those who want to cancel or adjourn their flights contact the Trang Airport, where buses have been provided, in the meantime, to take passengers to the two airports for their departures.
