Translated Version Of Farabiˈs Book Unveiled

Tehran, June 18, IRNA – Translated version of Farabiˈs ˈThe Great Book of Musicˈ was unveiled in Iranˈs Academy of Sciences late on Tuesday. Translated by Mehdi Barkeshli, Iranian physicist and music rhetorician, the publication is one of the works dating back to third century AH which is considered the first scientific book on music in the East. The book features various chapters covering Farabiˈs articles as well as his theories on musical instruments. Barkeshli has rendered the book with a comprehensive view and reviewing the Arabic and French manuscripts. This is the second translation of the book. Farabi was a renowned scientist and philosopher of the Islamic Golden Age. He was also a cosmologist, logician and musician. Through his commentaries and treatises, Farabi became well known among medieval Muslim intellectuals as ˈThe Second Teacherˈ, that is, the successor to Aristotle, ˈThe First Teacherˈ./end
