"Transparent Thailand" to be organised nationwide

BANGKOK, December 3 (TNA) - The government will organise a two-day event, "Transparent Thailand", nationwide during December 8-9, marking the International Anti-Corruption Day. Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam told a press conference on December 2 that Thailand, which co-signed the Anti-Corruption Declaration along with 190 other United Nations member countries in Mexico in late 2003, will jointly celebrate the occasion on December 8-9 throughout the country. Dr. Wissanu noted that UN has declared every December 9 the International Anti-Corruption Day. Tasked with providing state budgets to eradicate corruption in the Thai public sector, Dr. Wissanu said attempts to wipe out corruption are the government’s urgent and national agenda, as the administration wants to improve the country's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) by 2017. In Bangkok, Sansern Poljiak, Secretary-General of the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), told the same press conference that NACC has cooperated with all sectors, including the government, to organise the "Transparent Thailand" event at the Government Complex on Chaengwattana Road, aimed to create public awareness on anti-corruption in all forms and to maintain transparency in the Thai society. The opening of the two-day event by Privy Council President and Statesman General Prem Tinsulanonda, who is also a former Thai prime minister, will be broadcast live on December 8, while on the following day, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha will deliver a speech on his government’s determination to fight against the malpractice.
