Transport Ministry Launches Qatar Roads Design and Traffic Control Manuals

Doha, July 07 (QNA) -The Ministry of Transport launched Qatar Roads Design and Traffic Control Manuals in a ceremony held today at Doha Sheraton Hotel. The ceremony was attended by HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, HE Minister of Finance Ali Shareef Al Emadi, as well as a number of officials of transport and communications departments. Speaking at the ceremony, HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said that the State of Qatar is currently witnessing unprecedented economic growth, and made significant progress in various fields in accordance with the wise vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, stressing that a competent transportation sector is a cornerstone for the economic development "economic growth cannot be achieved without an integrated and efficient transport system.", HE the Minister added. HE the Minister of Transport under the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Ministry of Transport has embarked on developing a plan for promoting the transport sector in the state, to become the main pillar that supports the economic, commercial and industrial development in order to get to the ultimate goal of the comprehensive development in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030. The transport sector in the State of Qatar has accounted for the largest share of infrastructure projects and that's what put the Ministry of Transport before real challenges, where the ministry has taken important steps to achieve its objectives foremost of which is the advancement of transportation sector and access to the concept of sustainable transportation, HE the Minister Al Sulaiti underlined. The Qatar Traffic Control Manual (QTCM) establishes the guidelines and principles that dictate the design and application of traffic control devices. These traffic control devices include traffic signs, road markings, and traffic signals, and are placed on, over, or adjacent to a public roadway, and act to regulate, warn, or guide the traffic flow on that particular facility. The Qatar Highway Design Manual (QHDM) was prepared in response to Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV) and in recognition of Qatar's commitment to a long-term plan to develop an integrated public transport network that supports the transition of Qatar from a vehicle trip-based society to a modern, sustainable, multi-modal society. The manual declares the requirements for the design of roads in Qatar, provides general guidance, and acknowledges for the first time the importance of sustainability in road infrastructure in Qatar. The goal is to achieve consistently safe and cost-effective road infrastructure for Qatar.(END)
