Tropical storms cause damages in Thai provinces; More severe weather expected

BANGKOK, April 25 (TNA) - Concerned provincial authorities have begun providing assistance to tropical storm victims, while the Meteorological Department has warned people nationwide of tropical storm impacts for the next couple of days. In the southern resort of Krabi, officials found that three villages of Khao Phanom district were severely affected by tropical storm that hit the province on Friday. More than 50 rai of rubber farms and 35 houses in the villages were damaged, while government officials initially paid compensation of 1,600 baht per rai to each rubber farm owner. Concerned officials also assisted tropical storm victims in two districts of the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima. More than 40 houses were damaged from Friday’s tropical storm. In Saraburi province, a trailer truck carrying giant paper rolls lost its balance and fell into a roadside after driving downhill along Mittraphap highway amid heavy rain Saturday morning. The accident scattered giant paper rolls all over the highway, causing heavy traffic congestion for more than two hours. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department warned people to be on alert for impacts of tropical storms on Saturday and Sunday. Cloudy weather and rains were expected to cover 60 per cent of Bangkok and surrounding provinces on Saturday. People were advised to stay away from big trees and billboards. (TNA)
