Turkey helps Thailand restore holy Quran manuscripts

BANGKOK, January 20 (TNA) - Thailand has received old collections of six Al –Quran manuscripts back from Turkey, after they were sent for restoration in Ankara in mid-2013. Thailand's Ambassador to Turkey Tharit Charungvat, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affair Narong Sasitorn, Fine Arts department Director-General Anek Sihamat and representatives of Samanmitrwitthaya in Narathiwat Province in the Thai far South attended a ceremony in Ankara, Turkey's capital, on Monday, to receive the holy Al-Quran books back from the Turkish government. Mahamalutfi Hayisamae, a representative from Samanmitrwittaya, told journalists that Turkey specializes in the restoration work of old Quran manuscripts and offered to help restore the six 150-1,200-year-old Quran manuscripts, which are his school’s heritage, in mid-2013 free of charges. According to the representative, the remaining 60 Al –Quran manuscripts of his school will be gradually sent to Turkey for restoration later.(TNA)
