Turkey hopes gas supply from Russia will increase

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov.27 By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend: The volume of gas supply from Russia to Turkey has decreased due to the technical problems in Russia, Kanal7 quoted Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz as saying on Nov.27. He said Turkey hopes that the supply of Russian gas will increase again after the three-week decrease. During the 6th Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit in Istanbul on Nov.20, Yildiz said that the volume of daily natural gas supply from Russia to Turkey has decreased from 42 million to 27-28 million cubic meters. Russia is the main supplier of natural gas to Turkey. Around 26.7 billion cubic meters of gas was supplied to Turkey from Russia in 2013 and it is planned to increase this figure to 30 billion cubic meters in 2014. Moreover, on Nov.19, Turkey and Algeria signed a new contract for the period of ten years on supply of gas from Algeria. Turkey also has contracts with Azerbaijan, Iran and Nigeria on the purchase of natural gas.
